Maths Challenge success

Stella Pozzi, Year 8

On Wednesday 10th May there was a prize giving event at Newcastle University for the Maths Challenge, in which 1192 students took part this year. 66 people were invited to receive a prize or certificate they had won, of which two were from our school. Aaryn McDonald-Brown (Year 7) received a certificate for getting over 80% of the challenge correct, while I received a prize and was mentioned as being the only person to achieve 100% this year.

After the prizes were given, we listened to Dr. Tom Nye, who gave a short talk about prime numbers, the Goldbach conjecture and Turing’s idea about computer working. We both enjoyed being there and meeting others who also won the prize. Hopefully we’ll be there again next year.
