Bay Food Bank Donation

by Mr Keys, Science Department

Today St Thomas More made our annual Christmas donation to the Bay Food Bank, with donations coming from staff and students.  Some of our Form Representatives and Ambassadors came along too and helped hand over more than 3 shopping trollies overflowing with tins, jars, packets, and even some Christmas Decorations too. Jackie, from the Food Bank, was delighted with the haul and after our students had helped her unpack all the bags and boxes they were given a whistle-stop tour of the facility and shown how it all works, from donations going in the door to food parcels leaving to help out many families in our own area.

She even answered a few questions before we left and explained how the system works on referrals from GPs, Social Workers, Citizens Advice and even Schools. They cover the whole of North Tyneside, from Wallsend out to the Coast, up to almost Blyth and inland all the way to Annitsford. Yesterday alone 43 Families received food parcels from them.

The students were an absolute credit to STM and showed genuine interest and compassion during their visit.
