Ellie Hutton Judo update

Ellie Hutton, Year 9

On the 2nd of December, I travelled to Sheffield to compete in the nationals. The competition consisted of people from Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England. I had four fights throughout the competition.  I lost my first fight which then meant if I lost another fight I’d be out the competition fully having no chance to win a medal. I went on to win my second, third and fourth fight. This concluded in me getting a bronze medal, meaning I am now third in the UK for my age group.

From last year:

On Saturday 8th April 2017 I represented St Thomas More at the British Schools Judo Championships held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.  This is a major national competition which has over 600 competitors over a two day event.  To gain priority entry into this championships I won Gold at the regional qualifier even in Tynemouth in January.

In this competition I fought in a new weight category of under 48kg, against girls in school years 8 and 9.  I won my first two fights with maximum points.  My third fight was very frustrating as I was in control of the fight and leading by two scores, but was then thrown by a slightly higher score in the last five seconds of the flight.

After losing that fight I then had to fight in the Bronze repechage, but I fought well in this fight, achieving maximum points and securing the Bronze medal.

On the weekend of 29th/30th April, Ellie went one better and achieved a gold medal in the British Judo Council’s National Championships in the Junior Female 10-12 44-48kg category.  Huge congratulations to Ellie for this fantastic achievement:
