Chadsian for the Day

by Stephanie Potts, Year 12

On Wednesday 14th March, fifteen Year 12 students had the opportunity to visit St Chad’s College at Durham University. All students involved had expressed an interest in applying to the university and, as a result, were fortunate enough to be able to hear from and receive a tour led by students studying a range of subjects and belonging to a variety of societies offered by their college. The university students from St Chad’s were incredibly welcoming and helpful, offering advice and an opportunity for us to ask any questions that came to mind.

After lunch in the Cassidy Quad- one of the college’s social spaces- we received a tour of the Durham University campus, before being led in a set of mini-lectures from a Doctor of English, an Assistant Professor of Biosciences, a research fellow from the department of Social Sciences and two PhD students specialising in different branches of Sports Science. The lectures were valuable in the way they offered us a taste of a variety of subjects and gave us a feel for the style of university learning we may experience should we be successful in our applications.

The day provided many of us with the drive and motivation to continue our hard work, as it gave us an ambition and a goal to reach towards.
