Children in Need Concert

by Charlotte Devine, Year 10

On Friday 16th November the Year 10 BTEC Music Students organised a concert event that raised a total of £350 towards our chosen charity, Children in Need. Throughout the term we had worked as a class to organise this as part of our coursework. We were very pleased to work with Rebecca Nicholson and the rest of her team from Gig Academy at Newcastle University: Tom Nappey, Tom Bartindale and Colin Dodds.

Rebecca divided us into four teams: Front of House, Back of House, Sound Engineers and Lighting Engineers. Each group were assigned roles to carry out in preparation for the actual gig, giving us the experience of a real life situation.

The concert itself was a real success. The Year 11 BTEC Music class were the main performers as this formed a part of their coursework. There were a variety of styles and genres and each performer had worked really hard to show off their talent. It was a fantastic experience for us to have the guidance from experts and the use of some of their equipment. Many thanks to students, staff and parents who attended and supported our event.
