Eve Rudd at the National Cross Country Championships

by Eve Rudd, Year 7

I was delighted and honored to be selected to represent Northumberland Schools in the Year 7 National Cross Country Championships at Prestwold Hall in Leicestershire. This selection was based on performances in several previous Cross Country races.

On Saturday 24th of March 2018 I travelled by bus with the team to compete with the best 11-12 year olds in the country! The journey took us five hours; it was a long and tiring. We arrived one hour before our race; just enough time to warm up.

The course was approximately 3km long, very hilly and muddy. The start was fast as nearly 200 girls pushed and shoved to gain positions. The course itself was tough as there was so much mud, which made it difficult to balance and grip even with spikes.

I gave it my best shot and was pleased overall with my performance on the day (considering my main sport is swimming). I felt a great sense of achievement and found a new passion for running!
