Niamh wins Gold in Wales

by Niamh Savory,  Year 9

Just before Christmas I qualified to compete at the Welsh National Swimming Championships, I really enjoyed competing at a place I had never been before and loved the experience. I managed to win my favourite event, which is the 400m Individual Medley, as well as winning silvers in the 50m, 100m and 200m Backstroke. I also won two bronze medals in the 200m Individual Medley and 100m Breaststroke.

The whole experience of competing at a national competition and swimming in the Welsh International Pool in Swansea was brilliant and really made all the hard training worthwhile.

In April I have qualified to compete at the British Swimming Championships in Sheffield, where I will be swimming against many swimmers that represented GB at last year’s Olympics. The event is often used to pick the GB team for the summer World Championships, so I am really looking forward to it and will hopefully learn a lot from the experience.
