Pope John Paul II Award

by Lewis Hall, Year 13

After 26 weeks of working in my local parish as well as 26 weeks volunteering within the local community I qualified for my Pope John Paul II Gold award.

It was very interesting partaking in different aspects of parish life; and working within the community was extremely rewarding, so much so that I am going to continue with the next award.

I received my award at a ceremony held at the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle.  It was an emotional and very interesting evening.  Mr and Mrs Mizen were there as guest speakers and of course Bishop Cunningham assisted with handing out the certificates and medals.  Sr Patricia Bell, whom I worked hand in hand with carrying out the community aspect of the award accompanied me as well as Mr Micheal Thompson, school chaplain, who encouraged and supported me throughout the whole process.  I am very proud having received this award and would recommend anyone interested to just go for it.
