Race for Life

by Annabel Holliman and Amy Riddler, Year 9

On Thursday the 16th May 2019, Miss Limon from the PE department took 12 girls, from year 8 and 9, to The Rising Sun Country Park for a ‘Race For Life’. Over 70 girls from various schools all over North Tyneside participated to walk or run 5 kilometers. We thank Tyne Metropolitan College for kindly organising this event. At the end of the race, all the finishers were given a t-shirt, a medal, a water bottle and some sweets for all their hard work and efforts. We thank all the parents, family members and teachers who generously sponsored us for this charitable event.

Altogether, the schools raised £535 for Cancer Research. Well done to all the girls who took part in the race, especially Hannah Caroline and Megan Pattinson who placed second and third. We are thankful for this great opportunity we were given, to run together as a school and raise money for a good cause; it was a great day.

At St Thomas More, as a Catholic school, we understand the importance of charity work, as illnesses such as cancer affect a lot of people at our school, and their families. Thank you to Miss Limon for planning this run and encouraging us to get more involved with charity work. We hope for more opportunities like this in the future.
