On Monday 26th February our Under 13 boys Rugby team competed in the Northumberland County Cup final. The boys had previously played two rounds in the competition in order to qualify for the finals night, an amazing achievement in itself. The finals were held at Kingston Park Stadium, the home stadium of the Newcastle Falcons, on the first team pitch.
In a tough night of fixtures, the team played some amazing rugby and ended up with a 1-1 draw against Ponteland Middle School and a 2-1 Victory over Newcastle School for Boys. This meant that we had finished first on points, however unfortunately we missed out on the title of ‘County Champions’ by 1 try, as Ponteland defeated NSB 3-1.
Although it may be a tough result to take, our team still remain unbeaten in over eighteen months here at St Thomas More and look to retain their County Sevens Champions title at the upcoming event in March.
Well done to all of the players involved. We, as a school, are very proud of you all.
