Table Tennis Champions

By Ethan Haines, Year 8

On 16th November, I took part in a Table Tennis competition at Churchill High School, as a member of a squad of five students from Year 7 and Year 8. We were competing against other local high schools including Marden High, John Spence and Wellfield.

There were two rounds that led up to the end of the competition, to decide who would win and go on to the next level. The games were best of three and were very competitive against equally talented and skilled players. We played well in the qualifying rounds and in the final tournament we became the champions of North Tyneside! We all received a certificate and the squad was photographed with our certificates in hand! We were then photographed with all the runners up and shook hands in good sportsmanship.

We all left excited in the knowledge that we would be competing as the North Tyneside squad to become the Tyne & Wear champions. If we are successful in winning this competition, we would then go to compete in the nationals against the best Table Tennis squads in the country.

The team consisted of Year 7 students Ethan Veitch, Oliver Cuthbert, Charley Robson, and Year 8 students Kyle Lloyd and Ethan Haines.

STOP PRESS: On 5th December, the team won the Tyne & Wear Championships, so go on to compete for Tyne & Wear in the Nationals in Cumbria next year.
