U15 Girls Football County Cup Final

by Saskia Juric, Year 9

On the Wednesday 23rd May our Under 15 Girls Football team played in the Northumberland County Cup Final.  The final was for the Under 15s age group, which should be all Year 10s, but our team only had one Year 10 student and the rest were Year 9.  The match was against John Spence and held on their pitch.

The match started well.  It was very quick, there was always something going on so we all had a lot to do. John Spence had lots of good players including two girls who that play for Sunderland Academy, one of which also plays for England Women’s.  During the first half Lois Greenslade managed to score a goal but unfortunately the goal was disallowed!

Everyone was tired going into the second half but the whole team put in 100% effort and it was a great match, both to play and watch. There were lots of great shots and crosses but also lots of great defending at the back and playing in midfield. Unfortunately in the last five minutes of the match John Spence scored three goals which ended with them winning the match.

It was a tough match but everyone in the team played so well. Even though we lost the final we still achieved second place in the cup and we were all given medals. We had all done really well throughout the season and were just unlucky to lose in the final.

From Mr Anderson: Special mention should go to the performances of captain Jess Emami, goalkeeper Amelia Patterson and defenders Saskia Juric and Ruth Clark, who was player of the match. Hopefully the experience will hold the girls in good stead next season when most of the team will stay together and they will try to go one step further by winning the cup!
