Year 10 Maths Feast

by Abel Arnold, Year 10

On Thursday 28th February, a team of four Year 10 students competed in the annual Year 10 AMSP Maths Feast at Northumbria University. Charlie Goodacre, Neil Maromo and Jack Barnett and I battled it out against fourteen other schools from the North East in an enjoyable and challenging team competition testing mathematical, team-working and communication skills. The format of the Competition was based on our team of four working together in a variety of tasks; sometimes individually, as a pair or as a team – the most rewarding being the Relay tasks as solving the problems relied completely on the accuracy of team mates to get their answers right- which we mostly did! It was a pretty intense day but we were grateful for the opportunity to try something new and visit the University, who were great hosts and even put on a lovely spread at lunchtime. Although we didn’t win the overall competition, we did come seventh place which we are told was the highest position St Thomas More has ever come so we’ll settle for that………until next year!
