Year 7 5-a-side Football County Champions

By Tommy McAnulty, Year 7

On Friday 17th of January, the Year 7 5-a-side football team went to play at the county football tournament held at Blue Flames Sporting Club in Longbenton.

In the first match we dominated play winning 4-1 against Chantry. The team played very well and created lots of chances. We continued our winning streak by beating Borwick 8-0. Unfortunately we were beaten in the next game by a great team, losing 1-0 against Ovingham. We conceded an early goal which sadly cost us the game. However, this defeat made us even more determined to win and we came back strongly in the next round where we beat Ponteland 3-0. Our final match was against St Mary’s. We moved the ball very well and it paid off as the final score was 3-0 to us.

The team played well together throughout the day and never gave up.  We performed well defensively, only conceding two goals in the whole tournament.  This, combined with our brilliant tally of 18 goals, resulted in a tournament win for the team on goal difference.  St Thomas More Year 7 5 A-Side Team are now the County Champions!  The team and I can’t wait for Nationals where we hope to continue our success!
