by Charley Robson, Year 7
After an amazing season, where St Thomas More Year 7 team had already won the North Tyneside football league, we managed to make it to the County Cup final. The County Cup winner means that you are the best school in all of Northumberland so just to make the final was a massive achievement.
The game started out very well for us with Colin Slater opening the scoring after just two minutes. In very hot conditions we played some very good football, however Ovingham equalised in the second half to take the game to extra time.
Extra time was tough for us, mainly due to the heat, and both teams had some good chances. However, we deservingly scored in the first half of extra time, after a great run by Will Slater set up Owen Stonebanks to score the winner.
Full Time: St Thomas More 2 – 1 Ovingham. We had won the County Cup.
As our captain Dan Savage lifted the trophy we all celebrated together as a team. In our first year at St Thomas More we have won the League and County Cup double, which is something we are all very proud of.
The successful team consisted of Matthew Fairhurst, Charley Robson, Bailey Strong, Rory Hickey, Will Slater, Colin Slater, Owen Humble, Owen Stonebanks, Dan Savage, Keiran Sansom and Tommy McAnulty
