Year 8 Maths Competition at St Bede’s

Adam Graham, Year 8

On Tuesday 21st March 2017 four students from both the A and T sides of Year 8 attended a half day trip to St Bede’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College in Lanchester, Co Durham, to take part in a Maths competition.

When we arrived at the school we were given a warm-up sheet of relay questions to start the competition.  Throughout the day there was a large variation of Maths games and exercises to complete.  These included a variety of things from counter games to mental arithmetic.  Team T were awarded 101 points and finished in fourth place out of nine teams.  Team A, however, were informed they would be in a tie-breaker against another team from St Bede’s Catholic School.  Team A swiftly won the tie-breaker and gained second place in the overall competition with a grand total of 109 points, one point ahead of St Bede’s.

Overall everyone involved in the competition thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the thrill of taking part.

Well done to everyone who competed at St Bede’s Catholic School!
