Lauren makes her mark on the Toon

Football is an important aspect of my life, I started playing when I was six years old and since then my love for the sport has grown enormously. I began playing for North Shields Boys team because there wasn’t a Girls team for that age category. I played for this team for four years before joining Newcastle Girls under 10’s. Over the duration of four years, I played for local clubs which eventually led me to the Northumberland County team.

Unfortunately, I sustained a serious knee injury in 2015. This meant I couldn’t play football for seventeen months in order to recover. That was the longest period of my life since I was six that I didn’t play football. I made a comeback in March 2017, playing for Blyth where I successfully scored the winning goal in the Cup Final.

At the end of July, I was asked by the team captain of Newcastle United Womens to join their team. To have received this offer after so many months of injury was a huge step in my football career.

These photos are from my very first photoshoot with Newcastle United, along with my most recent game against Bedlington where we won 7-0. When I was six years old I had no idea that I would be playing for Newcastle United and I hope to inspire other female footballers to continue playing.
