Literature in London

By Peter O’Neill, Year 13

With the study of Year 13’s A2 Literature course being focused on World War One, students were given the opportunity to visit London on a three day trip between the 9th and 11th of November, staying at the ‘Clink’ Hostel.

The visit consisted of talks on the Friday from four speakers, one of whom was Pat Barker the author of ‘Regeneration’, the novel that Year 13 are studying. Luckily enough many of the students were able to get their copies signed after the lecture. The information from the talks gave a deeper insight into the thoughts of men and women during the war and what the reality of it truly was. It further consisted of valuable information on techniques and content we need to include in our exams.

After our evening meal we attended the Globe Theatre to watch the musical ‘Romantics Anonymous’, which was a combination of the right amount of cringe and warm romance.

On the last day we visited the British Library where we were able to see historical workings of the likes of Leonardo Da Vinci, and to see the first workings of songs by the Beatles.
