Dance Showcase

by CJ Courtney, Year 10

On Thursday the 8th of December all of St Thomas More’s Dance students performed a Showcase to show parents, carers and friends all of the hard work they have been putting into their GCSE and A-level pieces!

The showcase opened with a musical theatre piece called ‘One’ from the film Chorus Line.  This was performed by the Year 12 and 13 students together.

Year 10 performed one dance called “I Believe” which they had been working on since September. This piece was part urban, part jazz and part contemporary and showcased all their skills.

Year 11 performed 3 dances! There were 2 separate group dances which were each devised and choreographed by each group without any help. The whole group dance was a piece of repertoire from Florence + the Machine’s music video for a song called “Big God”. This piece was taught to them by Mrs Roberts over a series of lessons and then performed at the open night.

The Year 12s performed 2 separate contemporary dances which they had created themselves. The Year 12s had an amazing stage presence and all of the dancers were fantastic!

The Year 13s performed ‘Cell Block Tango’ from Chicago and used various props to replicate the storyline in the dance! They all worked very hard on making sure they had worked on and stayed in character throughout the dance.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience getting to perform with our Performing Arts family to show our parents, carers and loved ones what we had been working on. As well as this, the parents enjoyed seeing a diverse show with many different styles of dance performed by our talented dancers. It was fantastic to have a live audience back in the upper studio.
