Each year Mr Caffrey, one of STM’s visiting music peripatetic teachers, writes the official North Tyneside Holocaust song in collaboration with a local primary school. This year’s song was co-written with Year 6 students from Monkhouse Primary School. Students got involved in discussing lyrical ideas, and a chord sequence and melody line is developed over time.
Each year the current song is performed at the North Tyneside Holocaust Memorial service. This year, in addition to the Holocaust song, two Year 10 students from St Thomas More, Josie Allen and Caitlin Pang, performed the evocative John Williams theme from ‘Schindler’s List’ on viola and violin.
All four songs have now been recorded by STM’s Crescendo Choir at the Y Studio in North Shields and the CD will be available soon! Many thanks to Mrs Dorr from North Tyneside Music Education Hub, and Mrs Flannagan and Mr Teoh from STM.
